work with us!

At this early stage, we are especially interested in flexible, self-directed, multi-faceted quick learners who are capable of thriving within a small start-up’s dynamic demand landscape. We expect to operate fully remotely — in principle, people working with us could be physically located anywhere (though the ability to overlap work hours for collaboration is a consideration). Our work culture is based upon respect, trust, and autonomy.

Interested in working with us?

We will soon be seeking capable individuals who share our enthusiasm and motivation. Take a look at the positions listed below which we anticipate hiring for in the (hopefully not too distant) future. If one of the roles sounds ideal for you, and you’d like to be notified once we are actually ready to fill the role. Let us know via the contact form.

Upcoming roles with LingCosms

Linguistic Computing Systems (LingCosms) is a scrappy, lean, boot-strapped startup with no intention of ever seeking external funding or being publicly traded. If what you are looking for in a tech job is a swanky office in hip location with catered gourmet lunches and company-paid, on-site massages while you wait for an IPO to make you rich, then LingCosms isn’t your cup of tea. On the other hand, if what is important to you is making a fair wage while working with a lot of autonomy bringing cool, cutting edge tech to market as part of a flexible, respectful, fully-virtual team, then we might be a match. At LingCosms, we count on self-starters with the ability to quickly learn whatever it takes to handle new challenges — people with a “can do” and growth mentality. We minimize meetings, hierarchy, and formality in order to maximize productivity and project ownership. We expect hard work, but not at the expense of not having a life outside of work. And, we expect decency with all co-workers and customers, i.e., toxic behavior is just not acceptable.

Back-end Engineering Lead

Generally speaking, this role would be to make all LingCosms technology more easily deployed, more robust, more efficient, better tested, better monitored, etc.

LingCosms’s preferred delivery mechanism is API-based SaaS, and to that end, we have developed our own purpose-built service mesh architecture. It is an “aggressively multi-cloud”, serverless-based, micro-services system capable of operating (without vendor lock-in) across all major providers (AWS, GCP,…) plus on prem. It is designed to scale (almost) to zero while also being able to “infinitely” scale to meet demand and provide up-time robustness exceeding any individual cloud provider’s guarantees. LingCosms’s cloud architecture additionally self-optimizes for service cost and latency and provides support for regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR). This back-end engineering lead role would, among other things, be responsible for maintaining and extending that cloud delivery architecture (implementing best practices around logging, monitoring, DevOps, MLOps, and CI/CD generally) and supporting the deployment of additional APIs and additional (CPU- & GPU-based) micro-services. The engineering lead would also be involved with optimizing (and improving test coverage for) the diverse set of existing LingCosms back-end micro-services.

Future roles with PFB, Inc.

In a somewhat more distant future, we will be seeking individuals to play broad roles in the early stage of the PFB, Inc. start-up. With the understanding that we are not currently taking applications for these roles, feel free to express your interest in being notified about a particular role here when we are ready to fill it.

01.

Full-stack Engineering Lead

We use the MERN (Mongo, Express, React, Node.js) stack to deliver (cloud provider agnostic) cloud-based Web apps. This role would have primary responsibility for making sure that it all works reliably at scale for a world-wide audience, with special focus on delivering performant solutions at minimal operating cost.

This role would likely be more specialized around back-end systems (despite the full-stack title). It would have primary responsibility for establishment of best practices around security and CI/CD (including comprehensive test suites).

02.

Front-End Developer + App UI/UX

This is a coding role involving Express, React, Javascript, HTML5, CSS, and related-tools. The ability to work with Web APIs, especially the Web Audio API, is essential. Web assembly is also of interest. Experience with React Native (or other means of delivering hybrid Android and IOS apps) would be a plus.

In addition to the ability to actually code and test apps, the ideal candidate would also be comfortable wearing a UI/UX specialist hat (though that would likely become a second person’s primary role as PFB, Inc. grows).

03.

Business Operations

This is a wide-ranging role with customer-facing responsibilities including marketing, sales, and customer relations. It would also oversee more back-office functions like finance, human resources, compliance, and legal operations.

Obviously, in a mature company of moderate size, the scope of this role would be covered by several specialists, but short-term, we’re looking for an individual with the chops to cover the bases until PFB, Inc. can grow into a larger organization.
